Indoor cycling videos for Incyclist

Every now and then, I produce indoor cycling videos for my own use with Incyclist, that's my favourite indoor cycling application. I am happy to share them on this page. All files are free for your own non-commercial use. They can be downloaded, unzipped and then imported using Incyclist's XML/GPX import function.

New tour with 3 new videos and 2 new cols

12/28/2023 A new tour, covering about 70 kilometres and 1550 metres of altitude difference. We cycle to the source of the river Drôme, which gives its name to the Drôme department in the French Pre-Alps.
To reach the source, we have to cross three passes and make a detour into the Hautes-Alpes department. We already know the Col de Prémol from the Valdrôme Tour, but both the Col des Tourettes and the Col de Carabès offer a rather underrated road cycling area with low traffic density and a partly southern Provençal flair.
Go to the tour page or check the video list for the newest downloads.

4 new videos and updated Valdrôme files

01/28/2023 In January there are 2 new challenges for mountain lovers: The Col de Pennes in France can be climbed from 2 sides and the tour to the the Col de Menée consists of three more videos. All new films together are good for about 3000 meters of climbing fun. Check the latest entries in the video list for the downloads.
For the Valdrôme videos, the GPX-data was improved for better simulation experience. The updated files can now be downloaded and reimported in Incyclist.

First video with built-in segments

01/02/2023 As of December 2022 Incyclist allows the selection of individual track segments. My first video supporting the new track segment feature is here!

3 new videos available as free in-app download

12/24/2022 Happy to announce that my latest Valdrôme videos were added to Incyclist's in-app download list. They can be downloaded an imported directly from within the application.

New feature: tours and video series

12/23/2022 With the latest Incyclist release, a real cool feature was introduced: If videos are contiguous (start of video 2 corresponds to end of video 1) and if the control files are prepared accordingly, the video series can be cycled as a whole. From now on, my new videos will support this feature. Control files for existing videos have been prepared. Updates are available for download. For more information, please visit the new Round trips and tours page.

New video coding format: AV1

12/13/2022 The latest Valdrôme videos are the first videos produced using the AV1 video coding format. Previous videos were produced using the H.264 codec. Unlike H.264, AV1 has a royalty-free licensing model and offers high data compression resulting in much smaller mp4 files. From now on all next videos will be AV1 encoded. Existing H.264 encoded videos will be converted in the next few days.

Le boucle de Barnave (Vercors, Drôme department)

Length: 16.3 km,  ascent: 368 m, difficulty: moderate  View trailer
A round course in the French Diois region. "Boucle" in French means "loop". We start near the village of Barnave and climb the Col de Pennes passing some grape plantations where harvesting is being done. The grapes in the region are mostly Clairette or Muscat which are used for making the regional speciality and famous "Clairette de Die". We don't go all the way to the highest point of the pass, but return after about two third of the ascent so that the loop is not too hard. With a maximum slope op 11% and 368 climbing meters, a good base condition is required though. The ride offers nice views on beautiful mountainous surroundings.

This is the first tour-segment out of 4 of a longer day trip to the Rousset. It ends where the next video (Vallée de Roanne) starts.

Apart from a few gentle climbs, the route is mostly downhill and easy to ride. Ideal for short in between trainings or fat burning sessions. This is the second tour-segment out of 4 of a longer day trip to the Rousset. It ends where the next video (Pontaix - Chamaloc) starts.

The route is easy to ride and ideal for short in between trainings.

Length: 25.6 km,  ascent: 540 m, difficulty: moderate  View trailer
The Grimone pass at an altitude of 1,319 meters is located south of the Jocou mountain, in the Drôme department.

The climb starts with a gentle gradient of 2.9% and goes through a beautiful canyon named Gorges des Gâts.
Near Glandage, we leave the "official" route up and make a loop to avoid the tunnels near the village. This little detour rewards us with a spectacular view on the Gorges des Gâts below.

Valdrôme part 2 - Col du Fays, Col de Rossas (Vercors, Drôme department)

Length: 17.1 km,  ascent: 409 m, difficulty: moderate  View trailer
In the second tour-segment of the Valdrôme tour, we climb two more moderate passes. We first visit the Col du Fays and ride on towards the Col de Rossas. Both cols might not be that spectacular, but the real charm lies in the quietude, there is hardly any traffic.
Along the way we see some griffon vultures. They have been reintroduced in the Drôme department and now are quite common in the region.

Valdrôme part 3 - Drôme valley, Claps de Luc (Vercors, Drôme department)

Length: 27.2 km,  ascent: 136 m, difficulty: easy  View trailer
This is the third video of the Valdrôme tour. We return to the starting location of the tour and follow the river Drôme via the busy country road to Luc en Diois. The town is known for the 'Claps de Luc', an impressive rock formation which is the result of a rock slide in 1442. In the process, a mountain piece slid down the valley, broke into huge blocks and dammed the Drôme.
The ride is easy with few climbing meters and ideal for basic trainings.

Col de Pennes - Climb it twice! (Vercors, Drome department)

Length: 46.2 km,  ascent: 1177 m, difficulty: hard  View trailer
A nice pass in the French Diois region. We climb it twice: we first take the northeastern approach from Recoubeau via Jansac (10 km, approx. 5%), this actually is the same climb as we did in the first part of the Rousset tour. The descent is different though. This time we cycle down to the Roanne Valley via the steep southwestern descent (approx. 9%). Then we climb the pass from the southwestern side taking the winding road along rocky walls above a deeply incised valley offering spectacular views on beautiful mountainous surroundings. We then go down again on the north side via Barnave. With a maximum slope op 16% and almost 1200 climbing meters, a good condition is required.

Length: 23.5 km,  ascent: 736 m, difficulty: moderate  View trailer
The second ride of the Menée tour goes to the Col de Menée, a nice alpine pass at 1402 meters. This moderate climb has been cycled in the Tour de France of 1994. And if the ride gives you a taste for more, you can tackle an even more challenging climb and finish the tour with the Vallon de Combeau in the third video.

Menée part 3 - Vallon de Combeau (Vercors, Drôme department)

Length: 37.6 km,  ascent: 542 m, difficulty: moderate  View trailer
The last video of this trilogy takes us to Vallon de Combeau. The route is steeper than the ascent of the Col de Menée and the finish at 1440 meters is even higher. Despite this, Vallon de Combeau is less known among cyclists. This is a bit surprising because the descent offers magnificent views on the surrounding mountain landscapes. The descent goes all the way back to Recoubeau where the first video of the tour started.
